The History of Weathered reign:
Shawn Hill, B.V. Hawley and Matt Monroe started jamming together in 1998.
Matt played guitar, Shawn played bass and B.V. played leads. Shawn and Matt
started to write songs, B.V. brought his unique lead guitar style into the jams.
But still, no drummer. There was never a set time to jam.
Then, in mid 2001, Shawn brought Chad Wuchter in as drummer on the jam
sessions. (They worked together at their full time jobs). It was during this period
that they decided to change the line up: Matt would play bass, Shawn would
sing, B.V. would play rhythm and lead guitar, Chad on the drums. Shortly there
after, They became Weathered Reign.
They did a few open jams and recorded an "open practice". In mid February
2002, Chad had to step out to take care of other commitments. But, as luck
would have it, they found a new drummer, Paul Schaab. Paul brought alot to the
band. He played the drums from age two. This line up offered the first live gigs
at places such as Jody's Blue Room and Four Reasons Bar (The Big House
now) in Pell Lake Wis.
At the end of 2002, Matt Monroe stepped out of the band. Shawn took on the
role of bass player and singer once again. Pete Ruby came in playing rhythm
guitar to help out for a few shows thru the rest of that year. The band continued
on, playing out in other surrounding towns, and practicing at Shawn Hill's house
twice a week.
The begining of 2003 was a turning point for Weathered Reign. Working with
several local musicians led to the addition of Russ Sedgwick on guitar (taking
Pete Ruby's place) and Doug Williams on bass, (allowing Shawn to concentrate
on his talents vocally). Russ and Doug had unique styles of their own, and
brought much to Weathered Reigns table. This new arrangement broadened
the horizon for the band. They recorded their first ever Demo which helped them
to branch out more in the Walworth county area.
At the end of June 2003, Russ left causing yet one more change of line up for
the band. Ben and Doug decided to go back to their roots. Ben would play bass
and Doug would play rhythm and lead guitar. This new line up never got off the
ground and Weathered Reign was put to rest.
Shawn moved on in early 2004 to a famous local band Phineas Gage playing
bass and eventually Doug Williams joined as well playing Lead Guitar. Shawn,
with Doug and Drummer Charlie Bauer (from Phineas Gage) moved on after the
Demise of Phineas in the Fall of 2005 and created 12Gage. When 12Gage
broke up in the Summer of 2007, Shawn and Doug, along with Charlie, decided
to reincarnate Weathered Reign. Charlie had to step out not long there after and
Doug’s dad Ralph came aboard supplying a new “Old school“ sound. This Line-
up supplied Weathered Reign with the most regular gigs the band had ever
played and the bands 2nd Demo was recorded which really broadened the
bands fan base.
Unfortunately, after only a year and a half of playing together, Ralph and Doug
called it quits.
Shawn moved on to other bands like Drowning Thirsty, Rough Diamond Red,
and filling in on bass for Chasing Amy when he was needed.
When Rough Diamond Red fell apart in mid 2010, Shawn acted. He brought
on Rob “Red” Dalessandro and Pete Neubauer from RDR to bring Weathered
Reign back to life once again! Doug Williams even came back for just a couple
shows and left again shortly after.
It was decided that Weathered Reign would host an open jam At Chris’s Steel
Horse Saloon in Pell Lake, Wi. and just play out here and there for private
parties and gigs.
Towards the end of Summer in 2011, Pete had to leave the band and Shawn
brought on Byron Harms to take his place. Byron pulls double duty because he
also runs the sound for the band.
